In another Star Wars reference, in the scene where Indy is running to the plane at the beginning of the movie, when you see a long shot of the plane, look at the registration codes on the fuselage. They are R2CPO.

At the start of the film when Indy is escaping, the write on the side of the plane says "C3PO" a clear reference to the charecter "C3PO" in the star wars films

The actor who plays the German pilot aboard the Flying Wing is Frank Marshall, one of the executive producers of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. He was said to look 'German enough' when Spielberg ran out of extras.
R2D2's head? -

If you go to 1:44:35 in the movie you will see that ontop of the pole that Indiana and Marion are tied to a pole, on top of the pole you will notice the head of R2D2.
