Rise of the Planet of the Apes Easter Eggs

There are quite a few nods the writers threw in this movie relating back to the original Apes movies:

During the movie, the TV newscasts recount the launch of a space craft called the Icarus, led by a Colonel Taylor, which eventually (shown in a newspaper)... more

At one point on the movie there is a brief shot of a TV. If you listen carefully he says something about a rocket launch to get to Mars.

Also later on in the movie you see a newspaper, and the headline reads "LOST IN SPACE."

In Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Ceaser, played by
Andy Serkis, bites off his neighbours finger. This is a reference to Lord of the Rings, when Gollum, also played by a computer enhanced Andy Serkis, bites off Frodo's finger.

The latest Planet of the Apes movie pays homage to the star of the original. Charlton Heston appears on a TV screen at the ape sanctuary for a brief cameo.
