There is an endangered species in the movie. It's an Okapi. It was put into the movie because it is Darrell Rooney's (the director's) favorite African animal.

I noticed that, too, and thought it was pretty cool; but I didn't know there was any significance to it. I just thought somebody thought it might be a cool idea to add an okapi. Interesting tidbit: The okapi is the only living relative of the giraffe.

I noticed that too, but did you also notice that when Zira is putting Kovu in the dead tree tunk to go to sleep, Grandmother Willow is in the wood grain above his head watching over him. Hmmmm wonder what else there is.

Actually, yes the okapi was his favorite animal, but Okapis are only native to South America.

Actually SimbaSnafu, you're wrong. Okapi are found only in the Ituri Rainforest in central Africa. You may want to do some research about them; and just to help you out I've supported you with a link about them. Hope it is of some help to you:) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okapi
