Here goes! I too had problems, but got it to work. This is what I did. 1. Open a new document in Word. 2. Type the word Blue (with a capital B). 3. Select the word Blue, by either double clicking on it or using the mouse. 4. Go to Format>Font. 5. Select Font Style:Bold and Color:Blue > Click OK. 6. Hit End to bring the cursor to the end of the word. 7. Type one space then type a single quotation mark (this can be found under Insert>Symbol>Normal Text> Top row beside the & symbol. 8. Type another space and then one last quotation mark. 9. Go to Help>About Microsoft Word. 10. Left click the mouse once on the Word Icon (in blue on the left hand side). 11. You should get a black screen for a few seconds and then the pinball game will appear on the left hand side of the screen. On the right side of the screen you will see a scrolling list of the development team. 12. Use Z for the left flipper and M for the right one. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

I tried this for ages with no luck however I can now get it to work each time using the following method (using Windows 98 and Word 97 SP2). The important thing seems to be to make accessing the game the first thing you do in a day - it doesn't seem to work after you've had a failed attempt. Also, it would only work on 640x480 resolution (I also used 256 colours). So you enter the word Blue, highlight it, change to Bold and Blue then add a space to the end of the word. Then Help->About then click on the large 'W' holding down Shift->Ctrl->Alt. Then there it is, the most useless version of pinball since someone wrote the game for the ZX81 in 1K of RAM. It really works! It's not a wind up, but once you get it going, you never play it again!

While I was on holiday, my dad kinda 'borrowed' his works laptop so we wouldn't get bored, then I remembered about the pinball game. All I did was type Blue with a capital, went to format, made it bold and blue, and size 12. Then went to help, about, held Ctrl, ALT and shift and left clicked on the banner thing. It worked! However, this version of word is more advanced than my home computer, which is about 5 years old. I doubt it will work with anyones if it was this old. One thing I did not was that on the laptop it had 'Word SR-1' in the help menu, which it doesn't on my home one, so I don't have the right version. I hope that clears it up for some people.

OK, I've tried all of the suggestions listed above and it took me a while, but I finally got it to work. First of all I would like to state that I don't have an animated W in my about screen. It is just a W sitting on top of a letter or something with a little stamp in the upper right hand corner of the letter. I found a way to get this egg to work EVERY time I try it. First you open a new document and type the word "Blue" (without the quotes of course) and then you highlight the entire word and select Format -> Font from the menu. Here you select Bold and change the color to blue. Press OK to exit the format dialog and then go to the end of the word you typed and press the space key. Now all you have to do is open the Help -> About Microsoft Word menu and LEFT click on that little stamp looking thing next to the un-animated W. I can't guarantee that this will work for everyone, but like I said, it works every time for me now!

This egg DOES work - for a screenshot see: http://www.fieggen.com/ian/eggs/WordPinball.gif This may be enough to put you off. If not, follow these steps: (1) Type in: Blue (remember the Capital B) (2) Press: SHIFT-HOME (to highlight Blue) (3) Menu: FORMAT>FONT (4) Font Style: BOLD; Color: BLUE; OK (5) Press: END (to go to end of word) (6) Press: SPACE (7) Menu: HELP>ABOUT (8) Click on Word's "W" icon (no need for SHIFT-CTRL-whatever) I've read you can use "Red" or any other color, but only AFTER you've succeeded with the "Blue". In fact, after Blue, you don't need to type anything, you can then go into Help>About any time, even in a new document, until you shut down Word. You can also use the toolbar "B" or press "CTRL-B" to change to Bold, and can use the toolbar to change the color to blue. Just about anything works! Hope this helps.

About this egg changing the colors and resolutions etc: When I did this the first couple of times, it screwed up my computer. I have Windows 98 2nd ed. and Word 97. It made everything (icons, buttons, etc) about TWICE the size. Everything I opened did function properly, however, I could only see half of my desktop or any other programs. The problem was this: I was online, IE was open, as well as AIM (AOL instant messenger). I don't know particularly which caused the problems. I did have to reboot all 3 times. Try the egg with NO OTHER PROGRAMS OPEN. If that doesn't work, and you are typing it all correctly (Blue"" ) then, I can't help. Hopefully, this will help though.

First: Can't anyone see that it's "Blue " and then anything else ??? Second: On SP1 prepacked with a Dell computer, it worked. On original, it didn't. It must have something to do with Novell - on a Novell computer it also flashed black then went back.

Using Windows 98 and Word 97 SE2, here's what happened. 1) Because I didn't see at first in the instructions that the word had to be bold, I did it, and it played a sound. 2) I did it again, putting the word in bold, and it brought up the pinball game. If eggs like this or the Excel flight simulator are causing your computer to crash, it's not the egg's fault so much as it is the extra resources that running those particular eggs takes up - your computer's run low on resources, that's all.

Flipping a coin 1,000,000 times will not ALWAYS get you those results. It's random. That's the whole point. As I saw someone say, just clicking the Word icon will work AFTER you have done it with Blue already but only BEFORE you close down Word. (Word. Not the document.) Also, the Word pinball game is NOT 3D Pinball Space Cadet. It is a LOT worse than that because it only has 4 bumpers and a pair of flippers on the table. Sorry for being rude on my other comment, but I was on a kiosk and didn't have much time. And just to clarify what I said in that comment: If you type Blue* (* being anything from nothing to an infinite number of letters\numbers) and then put a space between Blue and *, then you can go to Help - About and SHIFT-CTRL-ALT-click the Word logo. I have SP1 and it always works. Also: I am almost ready to make a game myself that will be better than that one and I don't think it'll take me more than a few hours. I am not a superexperienced programmer.

Hey, this egg works just fine! Also, purple monkeys fly out of EVERYBODY'S butt every time they say "okay" and if you put your hat on backwards than you will instantly be consumed into a firey pit! Cool, huh?

Ok, so you've tried everything, and nothing seems to work. When trying this egg, print out the instructions and do it without switching applications or making a mistake, it could be that the egg is slightly sensitive.

Me and my friends know this one, and it's very picky to get working. To make it work, you must follow these instructions to the letter: 1: Open Word 97 (not anything before or after, updates are fine, any windows) 2: Type "BLUE" with capitals using the shift key 3: Highlight the word by double clicking on it 4: Go to Format>Font on the menu 5: Choose blue from the list of colours 6: Choose bold on the list of styles 7: Press OK 8: Click to the right of the word 9: Hit the space bar (to type a space, in case you didn't think a space was supposed to crop up) 10: Go to Help>About on the menu 11: Click on the huge "W" on the left of the window It doesn't work for me at school because our killjoy administrators have blocked it!

I got ity to work on my school computer but it won't work on my computer at home or any other computer I have tried it on. It is a pretty pathetic game any way and the only fun in it is getting the game to work. There are a lot of people out there (i.e. all of the ones who have submitted comments) who are wasting so much of their time on one stupid egg. I would advise these people to GET A LIFE and find some more interesting things to do with their spare time.

Believe me - it does work, but the 'game' itself is not very impressive, just very cool that such a program could be hidden within. (Don't forget it's Word 97 - AND it works in Windows NT)

This thing actually does work but after you type in the word blue and change the colour to blue and the style to bold you put in a space then the quotations then another space so it looks like this: Blue "" And the icon is the little W over the piece of paper in the corner! It does work people, I just did it like 10 times!

Silver757, give up if you want, but PLEASE believe that it really is true! Secondly, john pepper must have a small mind. Why do you think that flipping a coin is even used? IT WILL NOT ALWAYS GET YOU THE SAME RESULTS! Supposedly, it SHOULD (but nearly never is) a heads-tails split 50-50.

After an hour or so of hard work, I finally managed to make it work. I Typed in Blue, bold-ed and colored it blue, added a space, started about, and clicked the W. The screen flickered for about a second or so and it started. The only issue that I had was that the office assistant was jammed in the corner for the entire time. I was using Word 97 SR-1 with Windows ME.
