Mr. Coffee PRX30 Easter Egg - Author's Name in Mr. Coffee Coffee Maker

A patent attorney told me that Easter Eggs are often embedded in appliances in order to protect the author's creation. The real cause may just be vanity, or a way for his kids to show off at school.

From idle in the URX30, 33 and URTX83 models (other variants possible) press the SELECT and AUTO keys at the same time. The display will begin to scroll the name of the author and his family while the speaker beeps.

On the UNX20 model press the HOUR, DELAY BREW, and PRESS HOLD key to display the message.

From an idle state with the Mr. Coffee PRX30 press the SELECT button three times until you have selected the ON mode. Within two seconds press the AUTO and SELECT keys at the same time and the unit will display the author's first name. There is also a diagnostic mode that can be entered by pressing the MINUTE, SELECT, and AUTO buttons right after power up (flashing 12:00). While in the diagnostic mode you can press the AUTO and SELECT key at the same time and the coffee maker will operate normally, but the display will show heating element's temperature in Centigrade. Very handy to prove that water does boil at 100 degrees.
