SunOS/Solaris Easter Egg - Give Peace a Chance

The startup file /etc/init.d/yp contains the line

sleep 1 # we gave peace a chance, why not ypserve?

This reminded me of a better egg which may not be verrifiable any more, but I think it was in SunOS 4.0. That one was revealed if you typed the quite legitimate command

make love

The shell replied

not war

You can also do this when building the IMAP Toolkit Environment (latest version and perhaps older ones?) and typing "make love" Looks like the author put it in there as a throwback to the old days (as it also says in the Makefile). ---abc

This is actually an old "throwback" referring to self-reference of anything capable of running a make file. If using a text-based program without this cute easter egg, the reply should be "could not find target love" (stop). This is due to the fact that make uses a target to create any given program or part of a program.

To recreate this (with GNU make at least) all you have to do is create a Makefile with the following contents: love: @echo "Not war!"
