Voyager Space crafts Easter Egg - Secret Initials on Package Plates

Bruce Montgomery who helped design parts of the Voyager space crafts hid the initials DEI/FEIF on a valve package plate he designed. The initials were an inside fraternity joke, Dabney eats it/ Fleming eats it better.

The part number of the plate is 1007-3773-1SN 003

I went to check my Voyager Space Craft, but the only thing written on it that I could find was "Made in Taiwan!"

I can provide some backup for this. The initials on the plate were in the plans for the plate involved, so duplicate plates exist. In particular, I've seen black and white photographs of that particular plate, logo visible, taken at the Smithsonian. I believe this picture was in the book "Legends of Caltech", a privately printed book available through the Caltech bookstore. I'd like to correct a previous poster, FEIF stands for Fleming Eats it _Faster_, not _Better_. "DEI" and "FEIF" are pretty pervasive to Caltech lore, you can find out more about them at this web page from a fellow Dabney (the D in DEI) alum: http://www.ucolick.org/~sla/dei/.

Nice egg. Note to future spacecraft designers: When putting funny codes on the outside of a craft bound for the edges of the universe, it might help to show someone before it leaves the inner solar system. I guess we'll have to wait until it comes back to verify this egg. BTW, I scribbled a dirty limerick on the side of the Mars Path-finder probe ;)
