Mortal Kombat Easter Egg - Ed Boon and John Tobias Cameo

During the fight scene between Art, then Johnny Cage and Prince Goro, the camera will keep turning to 2 of the enemy ninjas/soldiers/fighters whatever they are. You'll know them because they're both bare chested, and whenever the camera is on them they completely freak out and start cheering. They're in the front row in the arena, right outside the ring.
These two guys are Ed Boon and John Tobias, 2 guys who work at midway games, and orignally came up with the idea of Mortal Kombat. Not really important, but still sort of fun to know.

It doesn't really matter, but in the video game Mortal Kombat II, Noob Saibot was a secret character that appeared as a shadow that you could fight.. Noob being "Boon" backwards and Saibot.. well.. that would have to be "Tobias" backwards. :)

I noticed the Noob Saibot thing right away. Also, in the "Subway" fighting arena in Mortal Kombat 3, there are two signs painted on the wall saying: <-- BOON TOBIAS --> And it's totally off-topic, but Noob Saibot in Mortal Kombat 2 (and UMK3) is actually Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat 1! The Sub-Zero in MK2 and MK3 is actually his brother. It says something about that in the movie Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Also, if you beat Mortal Kombat 1 with Sub-Zero it says something about him "Returning to the shadows from whence he came," which suggests that he becomes Noob Saibot.

I hate to post off-topic but I must comment on the above post. Sub-Zero is not Noob Saibot. According to the Mortal Kombat story line Noob Saibot belongs to an organization known as the Brotherhood of the Shadow. Sub-Zero originally belonged to a ninja clan known as the Lin Kuei. They were a loosley connect clan of ninja assasins. The Sub-Zero from the first Mortal Kombat (actually the fifth Sub-Zero in Lin Kuei history) was defeated, according to the story line, by Scorpion. His brother replaced him after his death. By the time MK III came around Sub-Zero left the Lin Kuei because they were automating all of their ninjas. In game reality they did use the same graphics for Noob in the earlier games that they used for Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Reptile, but the characters were not the same in the story. In MK I they used the graphics and moves of Sub-Zero and Scorpion for Reptiles character, but he was his own unique character. The same is the case for Noob. For an excellent site containing the story line go to http://videogames.gamespot.com/features/universal/history_mk/toc.html

Wow, that's pretty nifty, I never noticed them. If you've played Mortal Kombat 4 or Mortal Kombat GOLD (same thing, but for different platforms) and seen the credits, you should see Ed Boon and John Tobias when their heads pop up. :) Oh, and Noob Saibot is actually a pretty cool name for just using the creators' last names backwards.

Actually Noob Saibot is the older Sub-Zero, but Sub-Zero did not become Noob Saibot until after he was killed by Scorpion. Being killed by a demon specter left a taint on Sub-Zero's soul so powerful, that he himself became a demon. However, his ending from Mortal Kombat 1 had nothing to do with him being Noob Saibot, because he hadn't even become Noob yet.

Well, if you beat Mortal Kombat: Deception as Noob-Smoke, the ending for Noob Saibot shows that Noob is actually the Sub-Zero from MK 1, and since he was killed by Scorpion without having any remorse or compassion, he bacame a wraith in the Netherrealm. If he had been human, he would have been proud of how strong his little brother has become. But, he is too consumed by evil to feel. He uses Smoke to hel duplicate an army of cyborg assassins to take over the Netherrealm. Funny, Scorpion and Sub-Zero, they ended up with the same fate after killing each other... poetic justice.

MAKE WAY FOR THE MK MASTA!!!! Noob saibot(which is boon and tobias backwards, evey fan knows that)is the brother of sub zero.In mortal kombat shaolin monks(which basicaly is mk2)when lui kang and kung lao is fighting sub zero, before kung lao kills sub zero, lui kang stops him and says, "Sub zero died in the first mortal kombat turnament(mk1).so who are you?"Sub Zro replies,"The one you saw was my brother."Later in the netherelm, you see sub zero chasing down noob, and he says, "That's my brother." Everyone knows that noob is subs bro,and his story is when noob died in the form of sub in mk1,his soul arose after kang killed shang sung and then his soul was captured by the brotherhood of shadow(ex lin que[subs clan]members)took "sub" and turned him into the brotherhood of shadow.he then became the leader of the brotherhood.you're welcome,NOOBZ!

in Sub-Zero's mk2 intro, it says "the Lin Kuei received a message saying there assassin,Sub-Zero(NoobSaibot),has been killed, so they send another in his place" (which would be the REAL sub-zero not noob saibot) so it is saying that Scorpion killed Sub-Zero(noobsaibot) in mk1 and he is now known as a hell-spawned wraith called Noob Saibot, Sub Zero's Brother. He is in a clan called the brother of shadow and worships Shinok, a once elder god until banished to the neitherrealm by Raiden, and Noob Saibot PRETENDS to work for shao kahn to earn his trust.
