Burton, Tim Easter Egg - Black and White

In all Tim Burtons films, one of the characters will wear a black and white striped piece of clothing. In nightmare before Christmas it was a wierd kid, in the Batman films it's the penguins helpers. Christina Ricci carries on the tradition in Sleepy Hollow. I can (almost) guarantee that other Burton Films share this Easter Egg

I know of at least one other movie where this applies: Beetlejuice. The title character wears a black and white striped suit toward the end of the movie (among possibly other places that I'm too dumb to remember :} ).

In Edward Scissorhands, Edward is wearing black pants and a white shirt with black suspenders. The suspenders could be the stripes! :-)

I am 99.9% sure that jack in "Nightmare Before Christmas" wears a black and white pinstriped suit, even though Burton didn't direct this picture (I'm pretty sure he did produce this though).

Tim Burton did NOT direct The Nightmare Before Christmas but *did* produce it and is also the creator of the story (not to mention the design of the characters, and everything had to be OKed with him). So he had a big influence on it - - Henry Selick directed The Nightmare Before Christmas. Henry Selick also directed Monkeybone which *DID NOT* have anything to do with Burton, although it does at times appear slightly Burtonesque.

You are wrong, Biffy. The towel is black and brown, because it is dirty!

I know this is off subject, but for the love of me i didn't figure out how to submit it w/o getting an error... First of Burton's eggs is that of Jack Skellington on top of BeetleJuice when he turns into a carnival ride. the SECOND of burtons egg's is that being that he reuses actors, down to the smallest role. some examples are: Michael Keaton : Beetlejuice, Batman 1, Batman 2 Christopher Walkins: Batman 2, Sleepy Hallow Johnny Depp: Edward Sizzorhands, Sleepy Hallow, Ed Wood Danny DeVeto: Mars Attacks, Batman 2 Vincent Price: First Movie, Edward Sizzorhands Winnoda Rhyder: Edward Sizzorhands, Beetle Juice There are alot more, these are just a few

You are correct in saying that Tim Burton uses the same actors in his films but this is not an egg. It is a sign of the directors unique style - which makes him an auteur. This is quite common and means the director makes similar types of film, a specific visual style maybe and often the same cast. Other examples of auteurs are; Martin Scorsese who uses Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci a lot, and The Farrelly brothers who use Jim Carey and also most of the minor roles like Chris Elliot. The point of me writing this is not to blow out your comments (because your right) but just to let you know this is not an unusual thing, much the same as directors and producers who work together (eg. Michael Bay + Jerry Bruckheimer) it's not a secret little coincidence but more a practicality - if you like working with certain people you will... why not?

Just a quick note about Tim Burton using the same actors etc...He used the actor who plays Wynona Ryders dad in Beetlejuice in Sleepy hollow,i'm not sure what his name was but it is the same person.

The actor who plays Winona Ryder's father in Beetlejuice and one of the townspeople in Sleepy Hollow is Jeffery Jones. He is a wonderful character actor who can also be found in films such as Ravenous and (yes, it's true) Howard the Duck.

Though not necessarily eggs, but keeping with the theme of Burton using images in his movies over again I felt it necessary to point out that he reuses more then just striped clothing, he also reuses the jack-o-lantern as in the opening of A Nightmare Before Christmas and Sleepy hollow. Not to mention that often he also uses scenes in which it is snowing like at the end of A Nightmare Before Christmas, the end of Edward Scissors Hands, the end of Sleepy Hollow , and also at some point in his new movie (I’m not sure if he directed of produced this one) Big Fish. Also Buton seems fond of using Danny Elfman as a composer (Sleepy Hollow, Nightmare Before Christmas). One final thing I would like to add though as a Tim Burton Fan is that no matter what movie you watch your sure to love the imagery and the spectacular out of the ordinary way it is portrayed.

Eoin, Jack's suit isn't pinstriped. It looks like it is, but in reality, it appears to have been scribbled in black with a pen, which on the DVD, they say was a desired look for the movie. As it was made to appear having been scribbled on, it has little white spots and lines.
