Internet Explorer Easter Egg - View and Edit "About" Entries

1. Did you know you can change the aliases for the "about" addresses in MSIE 4.0?
2. Get into Registry Editor and go to Hkey_Local_Machine/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/AboutURLs.
3. Notice there are links to About:Mozilla, About:Blank, etc...
4. Try adding about:myself to go to your personal homepage, perhaps...
5. Or about:msie to go to www.microsoft.com/ie/...
6. Or even make your own about:mozilla page!!!

If you have your own website, but don't have a domain name, this is like a great replacement. eg. "about:lukeweb" instead of www.members.tripod.co.uk/~elephants/~jobbie/ffgf/etc... This is an excellent tool which I'm using quite a lot. Good one!

oh, and, if you type about:mozilla in Netscape 6 you get an all red screen that says: "And the beast shall be made legion. Its numbers shall be increased a thousand thousand fold. The din of a million keyboards like unto a great storm shall cover the earth, and the followers of Mammon shall tremble. from The Book of Mozilla, 3:31 (Red Letter Edition)"

I use the about: thing a lot myself, especially when I'm programming in VB6 using the IE ActiveX control. I use tricks such as typing "about:

loading" to add a loading screen. This trick will make it a whole lot quicker.

I have tried it in Netscape 7.0 and it works. The text is the same 'And the beast shall be made legion. Its numbers shall be increased a thousand thousand fold. The din of a million keyboards like unto a great storm shall cover the earth, and the followers of Mammon shall tremble. from The Book of Mozilla, 3:31 (Red Letter Edition) ' The background is red.

In Mozilla Firefox 1.5 about:mozilla says: And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced. But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird. The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast fire and thunder upon them. For the beast had been reborn with its strength renewed, and the followers of Mammon cowered in horror. from The Book of Mozilla, 7:15 I think there's an entry for that as an egg, if not im going to create it.
