Throughout the film, there are several other allusions to 8:2 that I cannot think of right now, but a conspicuous one occurs early in the film.....the number of the plane fighting the forest fires is 82.

Yes, it even balantly states Exodus 8:2 (or is it 8:6?) in a couple of places if I'm not mistaken. 1) In the quiz game show, one of the audience members holds up a message board with Exodus 8:2(6?) on it, who is then removed by some security bloke. 2) Just before it starts raining frogs, there is a long still of the moistened street with a Exodus billboard on a bus shelter type thing.

Additionally, at one point the young whiz kid (Stanley?) is seen in his library reading books by or about Charles Fort, who chronicled and made the world aware of such incidents of weirdness as rains of frogs. There was also a book by Corliss, who chronicles weird atmospheric phenomena. I *almost* turned to a friend at the time I saw this and predicted the climax, but I kept my mouth shut! Finally, in some street scenes where you can see bus stops are advertisements for what looks like a perfume or something, and they also say "Exodus 8:2"

Just before that teen commits suicide in the beginning of the movie, the shot on the roof reveals him standing on the very edge of the building. Look just below where he is standing to the left, and you will see some wires that say 82.

I just watched this film last night, and towards the end I thought it was getting a bit tedious and I was actually expecting a huge twist in events, like all the charcters were actually the same two people at different stages of their lives (I know unfeasible) etc. However, I realise now that there was so much more to it than meets the eye, I didn't notice any of the 8:2 refs (and it is 8:2) but am now going to rent the movie again to try and pick up on everything. I went to Paul Thomas Andersons website (www.ptanderson.com)and there is a huge section about the meaning of frogs and other things in the film. The best bit is that Mr Anderson himself states that part of the idea for the timing of the frog rain is that at that point in the film the cast are so depressed and amazed at the misfortune and problems in their lives that they do not see falling frogs as something shocking, and I was exactly the same when I watched it, by then it seem sort of apt.....and not the slightest bit strange, that frogs would fall from the sky!

Another interesting frog foreshadowing: The movie poster (and the CD cover and the video cover) all showcase a large magnolia. Look closely, the entire center of the flower is comprised of hundreds of frogs.

Hey, that one is funny... Did you notice that the average amount of points this easteregg got is actually 8.2 ??? That can't be any coincidence... *fg* This is NOT making fun of the egg, which in fact, is real, but no true egg, because it must be due to the film editing and is quite essential to understand the movie...which i didn't though till now :)

I've only seen this movie twice, but both times I was unclear about the part with the little African American boy, and his rap that he shares with the cop. It's early in the movie, and I wasn't sure if it had any significance because I really couldn't decipher what he was saying.

I don't know how I caught this, but when Bill Macy's character is entering his code to get into his office (I believe it's the part when he's breaking in), he presses the buttons marked "5" and "3" at the same time, then presses "2." Is that a stretch? It's there.

There is another point during the movie where a refence is made to the scripture. It is during the first shot of the crowd at the game show that you will see someone holding up a sign that says Exodus 8:2. The director put it in as a joke towards wrestling fans and sings that say Austin 3:16

Lets just say that nothing in the movie Magnolia is a coincidence. There is a reason for everything in the movie, hence why it is such a good movie to own and watch a few times, because every time you see it, you catch something new. Most of the things that you all discuss in the comments are easy to figure out if you watch the movie carefully, in fact I noticed the 8/2 thing almost immediately after watching the movie, and then I went home and looked to find where the plague of frogs was in the Bible, and lo and behold it was there. I think a main point of this movie was that there are no coincidences, just facts that are easily identifiable if you are observant enough.

First of all, please read the other comments posted before you post yours. I must have red the blackjack 82 reference 3 or 4 times, and the original post mentioned it. There were quite a few references people posted over and over as if they were new . . . But, as for one no one has mentioned yet, I read somewhere about this interesting "coincidence": There are several references to the Masons in this movie (the Free Masons -- if you're not familiar with the organization, look it up). When the producer of the show puts his hand on Jimmy Gator's shoulder just before the curtain comes up, he has a Mason ring on, and there is a poster on the wall during the game show with the Masons symbol. And, interestingly enough, you may ask where the Masonic Temple Lodge #82 is located. The answer? Magnolia, Arkansas. I quote, "these strange things happen, all the time . . . "
