In the first episode a TV newscaster is seen reporting that "A small-time crook, with a long list of wrongs he was making amends for, has finally finished." The newscaster's statement is the premise of the show My Name Is Earl. My Name Is Earl was produced and written by the same guy as Raising Hope (Greg Garcia).
