Open Water Easter Egg - Jaws Hommage
In the scene when the dive boat operator discovers the personal effects of the missing divers on his boat the next day, there is a tight shot of Daniel's drivers license. We see clearly that his last name is Kintner. This is also the last name of the little boy who is "eaten" by Jaws in the original film. Of course, this is the same fate shared by Daniel later in the film (eaten by a shark). The Director of Open Water (Chris Kentis), an obvious devotee to the "hydrophobia" genre, is here paying hommage to the seminal film of this genre. His devotion to Jaws is further evident by the fact that Kentis is currently working on a film called "The Shark Is Still Working," a documentary about the film Jaws.
