Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow Easter Egg - Dex's Raygun

Look closely at Dex's raygun. (you get a good look at it in the scene where he's testing it on the steel slab) Look familiar?
It's the gun from the 50's sci-fi classic Forbidden Planet.
Although the whole movie is a tribute to the 30's to 50's science fiction, I think this one reference stands out above the others.

On a related note, avid gamers might also have recognised it as the Pulse Pistol from Fallout 2, as that also referenced the Forbidden Planet.

CORRECTION FROM SPACEACE: The raygun Dex, et.al. uses in Sky Captain is one of the very few non-CG objects in the movie, and it's a completely original prop, albeit having some very general retro sci-fi/art deco design roots. In fact, you can buy a resin model kit of it for about forty bucks that's quite accurate to Sky Captain. I'm not sure if it's licensed or not so I won't say who makes it, but anyone with fair to partly cloudy skills re search strategies on google will have no trouble finding it. The Sky Captain "Dex" gun has *nothing* to do with Forbidden Planet, nor does it have anything to do with any other film, far as I know...
