Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, The Easter Egg - Stray Dog Scenes

When making "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly", the director (Sergio Leone) added the occasional stray dog, to show the desolation, or run-down appearance of a location. The first stray dog appears in the opening scene, crossing from one side of the screen to the other. The second appears in a previously deleted scene, where "Angel Eyes" (Lee Van Cleef) visits the dying soldier’s camp to find information on Bill Carson. The third (and possibly final) stray dog that Leone has added can be seen at the opening of the Graveyard scene (the dog enters the graveyard, and then runs away when Tuco tells him to shoo). The addition of these dogs is just another director's trademark touch, like Peter Jackson's car in The Lord of the Rings, or references to "THX-1138" in George Lucas' films.
