Marsellus in Reservoir Dogs is not Marsellus Wallace, also he is in prison so doing twenty or so years, so it couldn't be the same Marsellus. Summary: Not the Marsellus. Confuses a lot of people.

They are not the same person. The movies are not set 20 years apart.

I think you are getting my statement wrong. They are, indeed, not the same Marsellus being that the Marsellus in Reservoir Dogs has a different name than that Marsellus in Pulp Fiction (though the Marsellus aspect of the name is the same). Now, since the Marsellus in Reservoir Dogs is doing twenty years in San Quentin he cannot possibly be in Pulp Fiction which is set soon afterward (no, most certainly not 20 years AFTER Reservoir Dogs, which means the Marsellus from Dogs would not have been released from prison).... Summary: Marsellus's not the same, learn to comprehend English, and if you are too dumb to understand Tarantino's movies, you should stick to Barney.

They're the same guy. The names in Tarantino's movies cross over quite a bit. Also, see 'Curdled', which contains an egg about the Gecko brothers (Dusk til Dawn) on a news brief.

I'm so sick of hearing about the briefcase. One thing you forgot to mention in your wallace's eternal soul theory is that the combination on the damn thing is 666. But even so, I side with a comment I saw somewhere else on this site that says it's whatever you want it to be. It's like the age-old horror movie technique of leaving the scariest parts to your imagination because they're even scarier that way. Tarantino took that idea and flipped it on its head with the briefcase -- it's the most beautiful thing imaginable, literally!

Who ever said Pulp Fiction happened AFTER Reservoir Dogs? We all know QT likes to play games with time frames...

What's the matter, you never heard of release for good behaviour, parole, or successful appeals? Maybe Marsellus got out of prison? :)

I agree that this isn't the same Marsellus. If it was, then how did the suitcase go from Big Joe to Marvin and Bret and those guys before reaching Marsellus? Plus, diamonds don't need to have a warming light in the suitcase.

I saw an interview with Tarantino himself on TV and apparently the band-aid on the back of Marcelus Wallace's neck was to cover up a scar - nothing to do with his soul, but an interesting theory nonetheless

How often does someone sentenced for 20 years actually stay behind bars for 20 years?

The suitcase in question contains the same substance as found in the trunk of the Chevy Malibu in the 1984 film 'Repo Man' by fellow cult-director Alex Cox. Doesn't Vincent drive a Malibu in Pulp Fiction?

The Marsellus in PF and the Marsellus in RD are not the same people. The Marsellus in RD name sounds like they say Marsellus Spivey, and we know that the Marsellus in PF last name is Wallace. Also the briefcase in PF could not contain the diamonds from RD because if you listen close at the end of RD you can hear Mr. Pink surrender because he was shot. And if you read the new dvd case with Mr.Pink on the cover it says, "It should be no surprise that he's the only one to survive the ordeal, thought he does not escape justice."

i dont remember anyone saying he had JUST been sentenced, he could be 15-20 years into the sentence which could easily explain the discrepancy...although if it is marsellus spivy [or whtever] then this post is pointless and i just wasted 2 minutes

Tarantino just did an interview for the 10th anniversary of Pulp Fiction on IFC. He said Vincent Vega is in fact the brother of Mister Blonde in Resevoir Dogs (something Vega). He said the reason for this is that at one time he considered doing a movie called "The Vega Brothers" with both characters, a prequel to Pulp Fiction. He went on to say this idea has not been totally discarded.

The car in REPO MAN and the car that Vincent drove in PF were both 1964 Malibu's.......The one in REPO MAN was a Tan 4 door and Vincent's was a red convert.

The truth is, both Marcellus's are the same. It is highly possible he either escaped or got out of jail early. The briefcase really does contain his soul, the combination on it is '666' and a bright light is emitted from it. Perhaps Marcellus in RD was in jail b/c he had someone stole his soul back. Since he didn't do it directly, he was punished indirectly (going to jail) and Mr. Pink was killed for it (which if he came out of the warehouse peacefully he wouldn't have been shot). After Marcellus got out of jail, he moved and changed his name. The reason he (Marcellus) and Vega are so close is because the Vic in RD was supposed to be the same person in PF, but Madsen couldn't do the film, so the character became Vincent and Vic's brother.

Sorry if you think this is a stupid comment but .. Havent you noticed that the guy (i dont remmber the name now but the girl calls him pumpkin) when he opens the briefcase, he asks "is this what i think it is". i dont think much people knows how a soul looks like maybe marcellus is some kind of mystical character but i dont think so .
