Ballad of the Jealous Lover of Lone Green Valley, The Easter Egg - Young Portrait of Future Legendary American Artist

Thomas Hart Benton ran an art school during the Great Depression for starving young artists. A young sixteen year old prodigy by the name of Jackson Pollock left home and school in California to attend this famed teachers free classes and to seek his future. A future that would take him to 1940's NYC and make him the legendary stormtrooper of the modern art world. He would become a pivotal genius in the Abstract Expressionist movement with his eurythmic approach to large bold paintings.

This painting hangs in the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas. In the foreground is a young boy playing a harmonica along with the rest of the folk musicians. It is unmistakably the portrait of our young Jackson Pollock.

Duh. He was one of his favorite students - until he became famous and Benton claimed that he couldn't draw. Jackson was always hanging around the Benton house and mooching dinner - and posing for paintings. This ain't the only one!!!
