Monkey Business (1931) Easter Egg - Harpo Speaks! Harpo Speaks!
In the beginning of this crazy classic I just noticed that this film has the only sounds produced from Harpo's throat.
For the record, Harpo never spoke. He would not speak in interviews. He would never break his mime character.
When the four Marx brothers are popped out of their hiding places that are pickled herring barrels; they break into "Sweet Adeline".
I watched this again and again at leisure before I realized that they are in FOUR PART HARMONY. The silent brother is singing in a perfect tenor voice. Another Marxian gift for the fans.
-----
The first two movies were from successful stage plays that the brothers had developed. This third film was their first attempt at using outside writers to build a story. Then they would very carefully destroy the plot as they filmed.
In some parts of the movie, the crew accidently filmed the brothers dressed and acting as each other. I am still looking for those scenes. They were originally thought up by the four maniacs in order to drive the new director to helpless distraction.
