Tenchi Muyo Easter Egg - Pioneer Logo on Pop Can

When Mihoshi and Kiyone live together there is a big pile of trash on the floor. Look near the bottom of the pile and there is a can lying sideways. On the can there is a symbol (it looks like two 2's facing eachother with a y in the center). That symbol is the logo for Pioneer Animation, the company that created the Tenchi Muyo! series. Not important, but I though that it was cool.

Pioneer is shameless! That's not the only place they've randomly inserted their logo; at the end of the movie Tenchi Muyo In Love, Nobiyuki (Tenchi's father) is using a video camera, and it says "Pioneer" on the strap over his hand. Not to mention that in the second half of Tenchi Muyo, the opening theme song is all about wanting to be a pioneer . . .

Well, that's not all they've done! In one episode of Tenchi Universe (I think it was the third Time/Space adventures one, with Ryoko's world), a news program comes on. What is it called? Pioneer News! They haven't any shame. None whatsoever.

The logo, it happens to be a greek Omega. By the way, I heard once that Pioneer stuck over 15 or so references or so in the Tenchi Universe series alone. What company? Guess... It's Pioneer all right! The same company that made the series!

And this is because in Japan, a common way for media companies to market themselves is to insert themselves into an anime they are producing! It's also common for them to market their own products inside an Anime, one prime example is Sailor Moon, ever seen the Senshi dolls inside the game machines? They're just subtle adverts for the Senshi dolls you could buy in toy stores.

Re: advertising Did I mention, that Pioneer is also an electronics, chemical, and manufacturing company? Yes that's right, you can buy Pioneer merchandise at your local store! Maybe the camcorder idea was to advertise the Pioneer camcorder...

Pioneer did not make Tenchi Muyo!. Pioneer distributes the series and movies in the US and other countries outside of Japan. Kajishima Masaki and Hayashi Hiroki created Tenchi Muyo!, and AIC was the company that produced it.

Excuse me, Pioneer Animation (not Pioneer Electronics) licensed Tenchi Muyo for release in North America, they did not produce it (other than subtitling and english dubbing it). AIC produces the Tenchi Muyo series, so therefore, its AIC and any other production company helping animate Tenchi putting those little adverts in.
