Duke Nukem 3D Easter Egg - A Bunch of Hidden Phrases/Hints

Listed below are a couple of hidden phrases or hints telling you where to go in a level to find something.
Use this code to jump to levels
DNSCOTTYxxx (xxx = ELL (some levels might be two digits long))
example for the first one
DNSCOTTY104
--------------
Here we go...

E1L1 (not a egg, but hell, you might want to know about this for online games) This is MUCH faster with a jetpack...so go get that unless you want to walk on a narrow ledge. With your jetpack, go to the theatre entrance (the boarded up one) look for the single palm, fly towards it, and right above it look for a secret room called the "bachelor's pad".

E1L3 - Open the secret area in the Church. Find the picture of the Alien Boss dude. push it, and get out your best gun. Shot all of the monsters that respawned (if any, i can't remember). Shot the glass on the left side (stained glass)
go in, shot any other monsters in there, and walk onto the other side, find the "DOOMed space marine"

E1L4 (before I can say this, I got to say a secret first - Go to the ledge that overlooks the sub, to your right and left are alcoves, jump into the right alcove and push the back wall, revealing RPG ammo) - Jump into the left alcove in that secret, and "push" (or open) left wall, and enter a small room with the message "How did you get here?" In another small room connected to that room is a holoduke, can you find it? Add a comment to what you have found (if you want to).

E1l5 - Go OUTSIDE by the lava, and near the shrinkray. Turn on your jetpack (yes, you NEED one). Fly towards the shrink ray, just don't get hit or you will be a fly, and might get crushed if you grow back in a small corner. In the little room with teh shrinkray, it says on the wall to the right "You're not supposed to be here - Levellord".

E1L6 - Go towards the "pillar jump" outside the alien ship. goto the first pillar, turn on your jetpack (if you want to live, you need one) and fly straight down, remaining near the first pillar. You should see the phrase "Dopefish Lives". Could this have anything to do with the same "dopefish" as in Quake??? PLZ tell me!!! (I only need one response, dont leave 100 messages telling me what it means.

E1L6 - At the end of the long tunnel that branches off of the lava lake (goes up), there is a hand pring between two of the three lava falls. Push the hand pring, which raises the door above the lava on the right of the hand print. Go inside and find the "Dancing Cave Girl" and some atomics. It says something near the roof, but I can't recall what, someone find it for me if you want and post it as a comment.

(none found for episode two, except I think I saw something that said Bell on a monitor near the begining. (8311???))

E3L7 - Not really a "hidden phrase" but somethign rahter funny. Goto the TV station, then into the broadcasting room. Goto the desk, and "push" the microphone. You'll hear duke saying something funny. (This is K-TIT, playing the breast, err... best hits in town) (Ok, so i ruined it for you)

So there really wasnt any at all that had to do with hints getting to the goods. I was just copying what I had in my Level Secrets For Duke Nukem 3D book that I printed out from some strange web site. (thank you Jonah Bishop)

There`s a message from the author of the level (levelord) in nearly every level (I suppose). For example if you have the Atomic edition, e4m1 has a message near the mess hall. (I don`t want to spoil the fun of finding it yourself.

The "8311" reference is a joke on Star Wars. In every Star wars movie, the number "1138", "11", or "38" are subtly hidden or referenced to (I'm sure the movies section of this site has them). These are references to George Lucas' first movie, THX 1138. So the reference to Star Wars is, in a sense, an "egg within an egg". And Levelord didn't do any levels in The Atomic Edition. :)

The Dopefish is sort of a legend in computer games. It started out as a "stupid little fish" designed for Commander Keen episode 4. It made another appearance in Rise Of The Triad in a secret level, where "Dopefish Lives" is spelled out in the walls in the Commander Keen alphabet. It made it's next appearance in Duke Nukem's first boss level. Then it made it's way to Quake. The Dopefish is murdered :( in Quake 2, and I don't know of any more cameos. If you know one, please let me know!!!

There are more messages. In the pitch black secret area after the blue key gate in the Abyss, it says "Go With The Flow". The dark wall in the Fahrenheit apartment says "Blast The Bottles". type dnclip and go towards the helicopter in LA Rumble, and go around the building to the air conditioner vent to see "You're Not Supposed To Be Here" same thing goes for if you walk through the crack at the end of Raw Meat. Also in Raw Meat is the words "Push Me" inside a cabinet (which, you should) In Rabid Transit atop the stairs covered in eggs are the words "Mysterious Footprints" BTW, there is no message in the Dancing Girl room!

OK forgot one. A cave up in the mountainside in Flood Zone says, "The Crack Below". I looked carefully at the walls in the dancing girl room, and there definately is a message, but I can't make it out, it says SUYT. BTW, the wall in the doctor's office in LA Rumble says Under The Knife.

In the "Going Postal" map (at least I'm pretty sure that's the map name. it has been a very long time...) there is a secret room... somewhere... that is funny as hell. It's an anti-dog room with anti dog posters and such. I really cannot remember where it is but I think I had to use clipping in order to get to it.

Yes! Indeed these are hidden messages for Duke Nukem fans to find, but very few of them should be identified as Easter eggs. Still, they are soooooooooo fun to find yourself. I found most of them and more before I had any idea this fun-to-see, fun-to-add-to and fun-to-hang-around place existed in the triple-W:s. For example the (whoevermadeit Icouldnotcareless) level E4 L1 has the message "Are you small or are you cheating" message in the mess hall kitchen constantly moving water area or "sector". And the second level from definitely the lousiest episode this game can sport, yes, the second one, has, as mentioned, a secret message (not so secret now, is it?). First thou should wait till thou art docked in the spacestation and advance to the first big room. (The one with the switch that opens the windows. And I don´t mean there´s a bug in the game;)There thou could try using the method that thou should know if you have ever played Doom. I mean the push-the-use-button-till-you-think-you-have-tried-every-wall-of-this-room method. You should find two secrets. The other one has goggles of night vision.(as in ADOM) The other one got some ammunition (I remember) and another secret to a place that has a monitor. This monitor, when used, shows the 1138 again. Or was it that it showed the EDF- clue. If so you should leave the room and jump into the Earth Defense Force sign where should be at least a medkit and possibly the 1138. Try for yourself. Please correct me if im wrong. (Please, also correct me if I spelled some word wrong)

And in the Going Postal level (E4 L6 or 5) you can access the anti-dog room from a room with "Pick up Bart" written on the wall. (You can see it trough the mirror) One of the closets opens to the room.

-=DOPEFISH=- Is also a cheat code in Rise of the Triad. I think you have to load it: rott.exe -dopefish this makes it load in a really trippy way. It has a bouncing face and I think it burps a lot. It's been a long time. I apologise for this kinda going off the point from easter eggs in Duke Nukem to a cheat in ROTT. But some one asked.... :-p

This is kinda OT, but on topic at the same time. I think it's in the level of E1 right before The Abyss, when you're going down the fast river of slime. Using the RPG, one of the walls can be destroyed. In that room, you can go to a secret level. My bet is that you already knew that. Oh well. Call me 'ObviousMan'.

Know all the nifty phrases duke says as you blast away aliens? well in case ya didn't know, they are from the movie "Army of Darkness", which was released many years prior to Duke. Just thought I'd add my two cents.

It's in a secret level (I think). I can't remember were it is (sorry). BUT, the level in question has this neat lift/train thing in it that takes you to the different stations on the map (I think there are 2). Anyway, on the lower of the two stations there is a sign on the wall with a number on it (on the wall, right by were the "lift" stops. If you ride the lift round about 5 or 6 times in one go the Dope fish appears on the sign. And he (it?) isn't dead then he's done in for body piecings in a big way! Hope this helps.

BTW. The secret level is called the lost station (train.bsp) and can be reached by searching underwater near the beginning of the comms center (base3.bsp) level. Oh and you have to right the train 13 times.

Sniper- In Quake 3 Level 11, there is a wall opposite of a shotgun and a teleporter. Push up against it, and a dead dopefish "lives" in there (oxymoron) ~BM~

The story of the Dopefish: Id software created Commander Keen, and Apogee published it. At First, it was _APOGEE AND ID SOFTWARE PRESENT:_ then _APOGEE_ AND ID SOFTWARE _PRESENT:_ _APOGEE_ and id software _PRESENT:_ _APOGEE_ (really small font) and id software _PRESENT:_ So Id, the developer, got pushed out of the picture and subsequently left Apogee. By showing the dead Dopefish in Quake, Id showed it had 'killed' Keen and it wasn't owned by Apogee. 3D Realms (AKA Apogee) was unhappy at Id's leaving, so when they added 'Dopefish lives' they mean that they still 'own' Id, and don't think they should have left.

Some quotes in Episode 4 are from other movies, like in the level Pig Sty he says "yipeekayaye motherf***er" which is from Die Hard. Also, in Doom there is a secret room with a dead Commander Keen hanging from the ceiling.

I can't remember which level it is...actually yeah it's the last one in an episode...possibly E1. Oooh the same one that has the message 'Go with the flow'. OK well there is also a message from the levelord in the shrink-ray bit if you go right into where the shrinker originates (you'll need a jetpack, use 'dnstuff'). It just says something along the lines of 'You're not supposed to be here' but it IS another message. J.

Don't forget about this one! E3L1 At the end of the level when a big hole blasts into the building revealing the auto-destruct button there will be a little crack in the wall showing you what the next level "Bank Roll" will look like. If you use the code "dnclip" without the "'s and go through to the Bank Roll there will be a message on the wall saying "No one should be here - Levellord"

Has anyone ever seen the movie "They Live!"? To me it seems that Duke came from this movie or the idea of the movie from Duke, since I'm not sure which was first. Am I the only one to think this? Was just wondering.

Dopefish related: Dopefish is also in Hitman 2: Silent Assassin (made by IO Interactive). In the level "The Jacuzzi Job". On a table in the target's room, there is a Dopefish on a spring.

The Dopefish is a green fish from the old computer game (which I still love, even for my age) Commander Keen: Secret of the oracle. It was only in one level and was a bit tricky to get by

Hey Dopefish was alive even after quake 2's reference. In Jazz Jackrabbit 2 there is a secret place with a sign "Spaz ate the Dopefish". Spaz is one of two characters that can be played in this game.
