Star Trek: The Next Generation Easter Egg - The Great Bird of the Galaxy

In many of the episodes, when you see a computer screen cycle through a bunch of images quickly, you can sometimes find a picture of a parrot (or some similar bird) hidden in the images. This is a nod to Gene "Great Bird of the Galaxy" Roddenbury.

The Great Bird of the Galaxy has a more prominent role in Peter David's "Star Trek: New Fronier" series, with references in books 1-3, and a part in book 4.

Also, in the novel "Crossover", by Michael Jan Friedman, Scotty thanks the Great Bird of the Galaxy for his luck. (I think that's how it goes. Haven't read it in a while.)

In the Original Series, in the Episode "Crossover", Sulu thanks Rand for bringing him lunch, saying "May the Great Bird of the Galaxy bless your planet." The Great Bird of the Galaxy was Bob Justman's nickname for Gene Roddenberry. I have the official star Trek Encyclopedia so e-mail me if you want to have an egg verified. Happy hunting!

In the first season episode 'The Naked Now', about 13 minutes into the show, there is a scene with Riker, Data and Picard browsing through the aft bridge computer. Right as this scene opens, our first shot is that of the computer itself cycling through images and info. You can semi-easily spot a parrot as one of the images. You may need to pause it.

In Star Trek: Starfleet Command for PC, at one point if you hail a certain enemy ship, it says something like "May the Great Bird of the Galaxy defacate on your ship." Nasty, huh?

The episode with Rand and Sulu was "The Naked Time".
