There was also a reference to Wes Craven himself in Scream. When Tatum and Sydney are talking about the person who who killed Maureen was "still out there" Tatum says the Syd's "starting to sound like some Wes Carpenter flick." Carpenter is Wes's real last name.

Firstly, I would like to point out that the janitor in the Freddie Kruger outfit is actually the director himself, Wes Craven. Not Robert Englund. Wes did this cameo uncredited. Wes also had an even smaller cameo in Scream 2. The janitor's name is FRED, not Freddie. Also, Wes Craven's real last name is NOT Carpenter. His birth name is Wesley Earl Craven. The line spoken by Tatum was to pay homage to Wes Craven and John Carpenter at the same time.

Fred in the movie Scream was played by Wes Craven, the director Nightmare on Elm St. (and Scream incidentally), not Robert Enguld who played Freddy Kruger in the Nightmare on Elm St series.
