Mighty Joe Young (1998) Easter Egg - A Nod to the Original

In the beginning of the scene at the big "Fund Raiser" (The party at which Joe is taunted by Strasser and his assistant, and -- you should pardon the expression -- goes ape) we see an older couple.

This couple, a silver-haired older man and a still-attractive woman in her early sixties, sees Jill Young (Charlise Theron) entering the party. The man says to the woman "You know who she reminds me of? You, when you were that age."

The man is Ray Harryhausen, legendary Stop Motion animator whose first professional work was assisting Willis O'Brien on the original "Mighty Joe Young." His lovely companion? Actress Terry Moore, who played Jill Young in the original.
