Seinfeld Easter Egg - The "Signfeld" Company

Jerry Seinfeld's real dad used to own a sign-making company, called Kal Signs. In the first few minutes of a few of the episodes, if you look behind them when they are walking down the street, there is a sign for Kal Signs. Gee, I wonder why that was there? Considering that that that whole set of the street is fake.

[Correction by Elisson: Jerry Seinfeld's real dad's name was Kal Seinfeld and his sign company was called "Kal Signfeld Signs." The sign on the set was an obvious tribute to Jerry's dad - even if it didn't use the actual name of the sign company.]

it doesnt matter how lame it is, the fact is that this is a qualified "egg". And true egg seekers are happy. Sorry that every egg isn't action packed with a moral at the end for you.

I agree with Dan and Disgruntled, you both seem like cool young chappies. As for the other guy.... psycho! You need to calm down mate and not take things so seriously.

The sets are not real, they are sets. Thomas Azzari, the prop-man and set decorator was interviewed in Entertainment Weekly a few years ago. He said the Kal sign was an homage to Jerry's father who had died. BTW, he said the subway car set they built for the show costed $850,000.

Does anybody else find it ironic that somebody called Disgruntled told some other guy to calm down. And yes some of the sets are real, for instance, the yankee locker room in the episode where george has the grapefruit juice in his eye

Actually, the exterior shot of "Monk's" is a real restaurant in NY called "Tom's". The interior is a set though, since the show was taped in LA. I guess that made it pretty easy for outside shots whenever the characters traveled to California. Oh yeah, "Kal's Signs"? Wasn't Superman's real name "Kal-Ell"?sp?

Also note that the Monk's Diner, which has been identified as Tom's Diner, is in fact the same diner Suzanne Vega was writing about in the song Tom's Diner.
