Star Trek The Motion Picture Easter Egg - Fans As Crew Members

The entire Enterprise crew is gathered to find out about there mission in the large "rec" room. Many of the people present are acutally fans of the show who kept up the pressure to bring it back after the original was cancelled. Bjo Trimble and her husband, two of the biggest supporters, are in there.

The "Trouble with Tribbles" was loosely based on a section of Robert A. Heinlein's story "The Rolling Stones". In the story the Stone family has some "flat cats" which won't stop multiplying. Sounds a lot like tribbles to me.

Many people mistake the smallish woman in the front row to be Bjo Trimble. It is, in fact, director Robert Wise's wife. Grace Lee Whitney's son also appears in this scene as a Vulcan.
