This level makes an exellent deathmatch arena. So does "The Spin Cycle", a secret level on episode 2.

This level is called "Faces of Death" and is a deathmatch-only level (it has an exit somewhere, but hidden where it can't be reached without turning clipping off). It was already in the PC original, long before the console port was written. The PC version also has another deathmatch-only level (E1L8, I think it's called "Arena") which was removed from later versions.
