There is also a rumor that Dylan introduced the Beatles to drugs. I don't know if this has been substantiated though.

Re: the rumor that Dylan introduced the Beatles to drugs, I refer you to: http://www.bigmagic.com/pages/blackj/column2.html "In which I introduce the Beatles to both Bob Dylan and the evil weed, something that makes me believe THE '60S WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN THE SAME WITHOUT ME.]" - The Blacklisted Journalist The Blacklisted Journalist is Al Aronowitz and he makes this bold claim (and he has a right to this bold claim, as you will see in the article).

ok look, first of all, the dylan thing is true. i guess bob felt it would be a good idea to have the beatles on his album cover since they had him on theirs (sgt. pepper, on the upper right hand corner btw). but also, yeah bob dylan introduced the beatles to weed. they've said it themselves in books, magazines, interviews, and even the huge beatles anthology book. i know my stuff :)

Yeah, and "Paul is dead" and "I buried Paul" too. It's incredible, and somewhat touching, that this kind of rumor can get so much credence even in these cynical times, but...it's not true. Wait till you're straight, kids -- and get out the bifocals, geezers -- and take another look. The white bark above the title of the lp doesn't look significantly different from the white bark on the rest of the tree. Sure, I can see the face that's supposed to be John where it's supposed to be and, nearby, the blots that are vaguely reminiscent of the mop=tops in a typical group shot. But...posters of the Beatles?! No way.

Think we need to clarify something here, Bob Dylan did NOT introduce the Beatles to drugs, the BEatles where popping all manner of drugs before the came famous. They where said to have taken all manner of pills when playing in Germany, just to get through the night. It is said however that Bob Dylan introduced the Beatles to HASH / WEED.

Yes, the Beatles did take speed to get through their sets in Germany, however, Dylan WAS the dude who introduced them to weed. Why? Because in one of their songs (and dang if I can't remember which one!!!) it sounds like they are actually singing "I get high." Dylan congratulated them on being "brave" enough to talk about getting high on a single. When they told him they didn't and never had done weed he was like, "Well, we gotta fix that!" And it escalated from there. All this is from my Rock History class at Indiana University. If anyone has any questions I can e-mail the notes.

Dylan DID introduce pot to the Beatles. Dylan visited the Beatles in 1964, during a tour and gave them weed. He thought that they had already done it, because, when they say "I can't hide" in "I Want To Hold Your Hand", he thought they said "I get high".

These comments and almost entirely worthless and in any case, irrelevant. I lived through the 60s and the meteoric rise of Bob Dylan's career and never recall hearing any such rumor about Dylan introducing the Beatles to marijuana -- which would have been interesting, since it would have been very difficult for their paths to have crossed during that decade. As far as I can tell, the comments left on this site are comments left by people who are much too young to remember the era and know very little about Dylan [or the Beatles, for that matter]. These submissions are only rumors with no verification whatsoever. If you want to find out whether or not Dylan and the Beatles even MET during the 1960s, check out the many interviews Dylan did with Rolling Stone in that decade [and others], or wait for the release of his multi-volume autobiography, due in January of 2005, and just MAYBE you'll find out what was going on. The folks who post here clearly don't even have a clue.
