It's a bug/egg (odd discovery, either way) that's actually triggered by typing any four-letter word, then two three-letter words, then a five-letter word. :)

This is not an egg, it's a bug. Given a file, notepad tries to understand whether it's ANSI or Unicode using a heuristic. This heuristic fails for 4+3+3+5 (and maybe some other short) text. If you want your text correctly, save the file as Unicode (File/save as). It's funny to find an interesting string matching the criteria though.

It appears to be a problem with opening a 4-3-3-5 file, and not with saving it. I created the file in Notepad and saved as per the instructions, when I opened it I double clicked and it opened in Wordpad accidentally, as my system, is set for, and it was fine. Only when I closed then right-clicked , and opened with Notepad, did it show the error. Sure enough, I just went back and created the same file in Wordpad, Saved as Text under a different name, then opened that in Notepad and the fault showed up.
