Magnolia Easter Egg - Learned Pigs and Fireproof Women

In the scene where the quiz kid is revising for the show on of the books on the table is 'Learned Pigs and Fireproof Women'.
Strange title but why is this an easter egg?
The book is by Ricky Jay.

Still no closer?

Well, alright then. Ricky Jay is one of the world's greatest close up magicians, he also makes illusion based film props (the amputee chair in Forrest Gump) and does magic consultation for films under his company 'deceptive practices'. He occasionally appears in minor roles (Tomorrow never dies).

Particulary films by P.T.Anderson, and is in Magnolia as the narrator.

It's subtle but it's definitely there.

He's not only the narrator of Magnolia, he also stars as the quiz show host's assistant. Which makes the link between Ricky Jay and the kid a bit closer.

Some other movies with Ricky Jay would be P.T. Anderson's "Boogie Nights," "State and Main," which is hilarious, and "Heist." These last two were written and directed by David Mamet.
