Right Stuff, The Easter Egg - An Ace of a Cameo

Watch the movie. Early on,there are a few bar scenes that take place at the Happy Bottom Riding Club. The bar used to be located just on the edge of Edwards AFB. At one point, Yeager (Sam Shepard),and the old man behind the bar exchange a look. The old man is the real Chuck Yeager. In other scenes he has some lines as well.

I wasn't aware of that particular appearance by Yeager, but there is at least one other place where he appears (also in Pancho's). In the scene where the two NASA recruiters (played by Jeff Goldblum and Harry Shearer) go to Pancho's to talk to some of the Edwards test pilots about possibly participating in Project Mercury, at one point, an older man walks up behind them, stares at them quizzically for a few seconds, then asks if they would like some whiskey (so Yeager gets to say a few words!), to which one of the recruiters replies "no thanks, Fred. I'll just have some water...in a clean glass, please." (not verbatim, but close enough). "Fred" is, as you've guessed by now, played by Yeager. If you haven't seen the movie in a while, this side note may help you remember the scene. The part I've just described occurs immediately after a mildly amusing sight gag: when the two recruiters get out of the car outside Pancho's, at first, they mistakenly put on each others jackets. Since Goldblum is considerably taller than Shearer, the results are pretty funny.
