Lolita (1962) Easter Egg - Stanley Is a God!

In beginning of film, Humbard (James Mason) bursts into Quilty's (Peter Sellers) mansion and asks "Are you Quilty?". To which Quilty replies, "No, I am Spartacus!"
Spatacus was Kubrick's 1960 hit.

This egg is a bit obvious to anyone who knows anything about Kubrick, but to the uninformed it might prove interesting. But to people in the know, it's as funny as anything!

Another, far more interesting thing, is that this is not a reference, it is a stab. Kubrick despised directing Sparticus, as he had no creative control. He has since denounced it as his film. The full quote from Sellar's Quilty is "I am Sparticus. Set me free." Just a jab from Kubrick at his past.

how you ever seen "that thing you do"? because the drummer (guy) always says "I AM SPARTICUS!" the movie was set in the 60's...any connection there?
