Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back Easter Egg - Han's Bullwhip

At the beginning of the movie, while the protagonists are still on Hoth, there is a scene where Han Solo (Harrison Ford) is wearing the bullwhip used in the Indiana Jones trilogy. It is hanging from the left side of his utility belt. If you get to the scene where Han finds out luke isn't back yet, you've gone too far, go back and look closer.

I thought the Indiana Jones movies were made after the Star Wars movies.

raiders of the lost ark was made in 1981 and empire strikes back was made in 1980, therefore the bull whip idea may be a little far fetched

Did you ever think that it wasn't a whip at all. Maybe just a tool on his TOOL BELT!

Although Indy wasn't released until the year after TESB, seeing that George Lucas wrote the story for Indy he would have known about the whip and hence could have incorporated it as an Easter Egg, in much the same way nearly every Lucasfilm game has hidden (or not so hidden) references to upcoming games.

Maybe, just maybe, the rebels use whips to make their tauntauns go faster, like jockeys on horses. Just a hunch, but isn't it possible that Han just got back from patrol duty and diddn't have time to change out of his gear? Maybe he carries it around at other times to whip people with it or somthing

I think this is fake. I've checked all the early scenes with Han three times. There are only a few clean shots of his waist and there doesn't seem to be anything like a whip on it.

Hmmmm...Indiana Jones didn't even use a whip in initial drafts of the series, did he? I always udnerstood, perhaps incorrectly, that this was an add-on, not necessarily part of the original work. I don't see the whip, and I doubt from the riding scenes that the Tauntauns that the rebellion would be likely to use whips.

Just because a movie comes out one year doesn't mean that's the year it was MADE. The Star Wars movies were post-production for two years before release... Harrison Ford therefore could easily have filmed scenes for both movies in the same year. Of course there are going to be cross-movie easter eggs, they are both Lucas ventures.
