Animal Crossing Easter Egg - Legend of Zelda and Mario References

When you create a character to move into an existing town, the cat you meet on the train named Rover will call Tom Nook and say "It's a ME! Hey, good impression, right?" The impression is, of course, Mario.

There are three other characters who are references to Nintendo characters in the game.

Alfonso - This meek crocodile wears the Big Bro Shirt (red with "M" on it) and says "It's-a me!" as his catchphrase - both references to Mario.

Louie - This gorilla looks a lot like Donkey Kong. He also wears the Li'l Bro Shirt (green with Mario's brother Luigi's "L" on it.

Wart Jr. - This froggy character's name may be a reference to Wart, the final boss at the end of Super Mario Bros. 2 on the NES.

Go into Peanuts (the squirrel) house. Walk over to the green dresser. When you open it, a message will appear, saying, "You found 100 Rupees! But you can't use them here." This is a reference to the Legend of Zelda games, where the message would appear upon opening a chest.

Sometimes Kapp'n (the ferryman who brings you to your island) will ask you if you've ever spent a night in a Hyrulean prison, referring to Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda.

Gulliver the seagull washes up on the beach once a week, and will sometimes talk of his travels around the world, and where he left his "girls" (goldfish). He's been to Toad Town (from Paper Mario) and Hyrule (from The Legend of Zelda series).

He may also mention that he once fought sea snakes at Pinnacle Rock, and then remember that wasn't him. It was, of course, Link in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

The mysterious fortune teller named Katrina appears once in a while. On the inside of her tent is the image of the Triforce from The Legend of Zelda series. Her tent is also laid out very much like the fortune telling shops in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, although this may not have been intentional.

When Gracie, the fashion-concious giraffe, is wearing an official Gracie Design shirt, she will say that it's part of last year's Hyrulean line - another reference to Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda series.

When you catch a Loach, your character will say "I wonder if it's Hylian?" This is a reference to the Hylian Loach - the rarest fish to catch in the fishing minigame in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

If you look very closely, the Autumn Medal has Marios face on it.

Nintendo also included shirt designs, and some other designs, based on Nintendo characters:

Big Bro's Shirt - Red design with Mario's "M" on it
Li'l Bro's Shirt - Green design with Luigi's "L" on it
Toad Print - Red design with white polka dots (from Toad in the Super Mario series)
Anju's Shirt - Green and brown design (from Anju in Majora's Mask)
Kaffe's Shirt - Purple design (from Kaffe in Majora's Mask)
Nintendo Umbrella - Blue umbrella with Nintendo written in Kanji
