When the Martians first visit earth they land in Pahrump, Nevada.

Pahrump, Nevada is the home of famous radio personality Art Bell. At the time the movie was made he did his radio show "Coast to Coast AM" from his home in Pahrump. His show routinely dealt with numerous strange topics; including many on alien abduction and extra terrestrial life.
