Mass Effect Easter Egg - Soviet Probe on the Moon

After leaving the Citadel for the first time (just after gaining spectre status) head to the Sol system in the Local cluster. Land on Luna (aka the Earth's moon) and head toward the anomaly (question mark on map). All of these in the game will either be an escape pod or downed probe, except this one. Instead it reads CCCP probe (another name for the Soviet Union).

well... they DID send a probe to the moon, which crashed... not so much an Easter egg as it is historical accuracy

They sent LOTS of probes to the Moon. So it is not an egg, just a joke. And CCCP is not another name of the Soviet Union, it is pure Cyrillic name of USSR.

It was launched by Lavochkin (Russian aerospace program) to return with samples as the first USSR returnable spacecraft. Failed to having land on feasible land led the program to be shut down on November 9, 1974, remaining on the Moon. Better known as the Lunnik 23; see the Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luna_23
