Toy Story 2 Easter Egg - Movie Spoofs

1. During the Toy Store scene, when the Dinosaur falls out of the car and is soonafter chasing after it, he appears in the rear-view mirror saying "objects are closer than they appear" -- a direct spoof of a famous Jurassic Park scene.

2. When the "new" Buzz pushes the "real" Buzz into the needle-majiggy, he is in the exact shape as Han Solo frozen in Carbonite (Return of the Jedi)

3. When BuzzLightYear first enters his personal isle at the toy store, the background music combined with the camera angle and Buzz's reaction looked much like the Matrix when Neo first woke up from "The Matrix"

right on fox. And also, I never noticed the one that is copying the matrix,i dont know if thats on purpose or not. but first of all,i dont think you mean RIGHT when neo wakes up from the matrix, cuz right then, hes in a tub of pink goo, and well personally the similarity, but i'd have to watch it again..

I think this is probably an egg. In the trailer showing the gang crossing the street, the music playing was "the MiB Theme" from Men In Black. My friend and I could not for the life of us decide why they had put it in as the similaritys were non-existant

They're hardly Eggs!?! They're intentional lampoons of popular movies! You'd might as well claim that Austin Powers contains some eggs where it coppies James Bond films!!

There is a scene from MIB in that sequence. When Buzz and Buzz fights there's one move where Buzz throws Buzz at the wall head first where Buzz walks up the wall and jumps backwards over Buzzes head. That move was lifted right out from one of the early scenes when Will Smith chases down the alien.

What about the scene where Zurg and the "new" Buzz are fighting atop the elevator? Did anyone notice that Zurg's blaster went up to "11"? A worthy nod to "This is Spinal Tap."

Someone mentioned the references to "The Empire Strikes Back." Well, apparently the animators at Pixar really like the Star Wars movies, because in the scene where the toys are chasing the green suitcase through the airport the camera case if full of camera flashes. Two of these are Graflex 3-cell flash handles, used on antique press cameras. The original Luke Skywalker lightsaber was made from this camera flash. Also, when Zurg falls down the elevator shaft, he falls in a way reminiscent of the Emperor falling in the Death Star II.

Any happen to catch Mr Potato Head's impression of Odd Job from Goldfinger while trying to leave Al's place for the airport? Anyhoo, back to the original debate, these spoofs are deliberate and not secretly hidden in any particular way (They're exposed out in the open for goodness sake!)

the references to the star wars movies is because the movie is "digitally mastered" by george lucas' film company (the author, director, master of star wars) - look at the opening credits there is one that says THX and above in small print it says lucas film ltd. The references to the star wars movies are put there as a credit to him. Also in buzz lightyear of star command there are references too , like his partner' name .... check it out.

The reason for all the Stars Wars references is because Pixar had its roots in LucasFilm, not because of the use of THX. After all just about every movie uses THX these days. Heck, even the DVD version of Evil Dead 2 used THX.

Here's one that no one catches. If anyone has seen the movie "Airplane!", they will remember the debate between the airport announcers about parking in the white zones, red zones, etc. When the toys pull up to the airport (Which bears an uncanny resemblance to Chicago's Midway) Rex says "Guys, we can't park here, it's a white zone." That seems a pretty clear reference to me.

Another pretty clear one is in the Buzz Lightyear game at the beginning of the film, Buzz is up against a rock when a camera eye thingy on the end of an extendable pole comes out of the rock. When Buzz blasts it, the door opens up. This in my mind is very similar to "Return of the Jedi" when C-3PO and R2D2 are trying to get into Jabba the Hut's place. Also, listen to the sound effects. I know someone is going to say they are generic sound effects (lasers, doors opening) but the door sound is the exact same SFX as in the scene from ROTJ I mentioned a few lines ago, and the laser effects are the same as any laser blaster from any of the Star War's Trilogy

Notice also that in Darksaber, the novel by Kevin J. Anderson, when Han and Luke visit Jabba's palace, Han shoots the guard drone, and in ts2, when Buzz reports no signs of life on the planet and looks up to see all those droids, did anyone else notice that the sound they make when their guns unfold is the sound of a battle droid unfolding, and the sound of Buzz's anti-gravity shield is that of a droideka's shield activating?

I think the most obvious spoof in the movie was when zurg was buzz's father, and undoubtedly the funniest. It seems more and more movies are doing this. Anyone seen the movie Mafia? It is a really twisted, funny story that uses sooooo many parodys, then theres scary movie, and others.

Here's a dead giveaway that its spoofing Star Wars (besides the fact Zurg is Buzz's father)- When they are playing the video game at the beginning the way that Buzz jumps on the flatforms before he gets to the hologram batteries, SOUNDS LIKE MUSIC FROM STAR WARS... DUM....DUM...DUM.... DUM DUM!!! I know that MOST of you out there recognized this, but for any who haven't there ya go. Also, I didn't hear the thing about Airplane, but that is so hilarious I have to go listen for it the next time I see it. I remember- "No parking on the white zones, the red zones are for loading and unloading only- NO its no parking on the red zones- DON'T YOU tell me where to park!" (not exact quote but I don't have it memorized :) )

Just thought I'd let you in that the music when Buzz is going for the battery is in NO WAY from STAR WARS, It's actually a reference to 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY.

You missed one... When the toys are about to cross the road to Al's Toy Barn. Slinky says "I might not be a smart dog, but I know what road kill is". This line copies the line from Forrest Gump: I might not be a smart man, but I know what love is.

Another thing to note is that when the cowgirl is remembering the girl who dumped her on the road, one scene during the song looks exactly like the kids' bedroom in the movie "Hook". I get the feeling that there are so many movie spoofs in there that i missed...

I can't believe no-one noticed the Mission: Impossible spoof. In the scene where Woody is trying to reach the Airplane, he jumps across the tops of the luggage cars in a manner not unlike how Ethan Hunt jumps across the tops of the train cars.

Also, when Buzz runs his hand through "Zurg's Power Source", the sound effect is that of a lightsaber being swung around.

OK when you said the music in the opening scene where Buzz is walking across the discs in Zurg's underground fort is NOT FROM STAR WARS! It is the music from 2001: A Space Oddessy.

The whole part with Buzz Lightyear and Emperor Zorg about "You killed my father!" "No, I AM your father!" Does anyone consider that first line to be a reference to the Princess Bride? I always did, but that's because I am an absolute fanatic for the movie. Hearing that in the movie theatre made me so happy. :)

To set all the stories straight...The part where buz jumps on the platforms is from Space 2001. Yes the hand through the battery does sound like a lightsaber. Alot of people can tie alot of things to this movie from other movies...look how many are out there...but to say that Rex is quoting Airplane on the white zone is pretty pathetic. Also there is going to be a Star Wars refrence for the parents who watch the movie with there kids, for the adult humor in the movie

For everyone who thinks that the music in the "zurg fortress" scene where Buzz is going across the discs to the battery is from 'Star Wars,' you are incorrect. The music is indeed from '2001: A Space Oddessy' and the song is called "Zarathustra." Just thought I'd set it straight as the music is used often.

There is one Star Wars reference you didn't mention: When Buzz looks at the background, right before Zurg's robots detect him, you can actually hear Darth Vader's breathing noise.
