Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Easter Egg - Thompson for Sheriff

In the scene where Raoul Duke (Thompson) is in the desert using the payphone calling his attorney(Gonzo) we see a shot of his attorney in his office talking back to him. Behind him on the wall is the "Thompson for Sheriff" electoral poster. It is a big sheriff star. The real Hunter S. Thompson ran for sheriff in Aspen, Colorado.

In that same scene where Thomson is using the phone, if you look in the background you will notice that there is black smoke...the thing is that the black smoke is going back in where it came from instead of coming out. If you haven't checked it out already, you should.

Hunter ran for Sheriff of Aspen in 1970, and came very close to winning. However he didn't take the election too seriously and Included things like Allowing his Deputies to be on mescaline while on duty, and ripping up the paved streets and replacing them with sod on the "Freak Power" Campaign platform. I think there is a web site dedicated to Thompson where you can buy the posters- the one in the movie was slightly different though... In the middle of the sheriff star there is a picture of Thompson. Thompson still resides in Woody Creek, Colorado (Just outside of aspen). On another note, if someone could tell Me the Year and model of the Red Shark, I'd really appreciate it!! (I know its a Chevy but a Chevy what? I was thinking it may be an early 70's Impala)
