SpongeBob Squarepants Easter Egg - Spongebob's Original Name
In one of the episodes of Spongebob Squarepants, I'm not for sure which one, Mr. Krabs refers to Spongebob as "Spongeboy, me Bob." This was a seemingly useless fact until I found out that the creators of the show's original name for Spongebob was actually "Spongeboy", but could not permanently name him this because there was already a "Spongeboy" in some other show (I don't know which show, though).

This isn't a reference to anything! Mr. Krabs is just mixing his words around, as a joke.

I have not confirmed this on the DVD (I did go to the website mentioned, but a list of before-and-afters with no references does not a confirmation make!). That being said, here's my take on this. Yes, Spongebob's name was originally supposed to be "Spongeboy" (in which case, thank Neptune they changed it!). No, this "egg" is not a reference to it. This quote is, as previously mentioned, Mr. Krabs mixing his words - "Spongebob me boy" becomes "Spongeboy me bob." It's a joke. Ha ha ha.

If you want confirmation, rent the DVD "SpongeBob SquarePants: Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies." Go to "Special Features," then "More Secrets"(well, the last choice), then "SpongeBob's Start." The third clip is your confirmation.

I've seen this episode and isn't it obvious why he calls him this? instead of saying, spongebob me boy, he says spongeboy me bob. Like DUH!

I think the name "Spongeboy" was the name of a comic book character in some weird comic, so they had to change it, as stated in a National Geographic Kids magazine, I think.

My mom's friend's brother actually created a doll-type-thing that was a sponge with arms and leg, which he called "Bobspongy," which he sold, he want's to sue Stephen Hillenburg for stealing his idea and making money off of it. Just throwing it out there.
NOTE: I AM NOT TRYING TO PUT AN END TO SPONGEBOB!!! I THINK IT'S AN AWESOME SHOW!!!
