Grand Theft Auto 3 Easter Egg - Invisible Towns

To locate the invisible towns on the map:

1. At your home in Portland, enable the Dodo Car cheat (press Right direction on d-pad, R2, Circle, R1, L2, Down direction on D-pad, L1, R1).

2. Walk out on to the road and enable the Rhino Tank cheat (press Circle six times, R1, L2, L1, Triangle, Circle, Triangle).

3. Get inside the tank, and using the Right analogue stick, position the cannon so that it fires behind you.

4. Drive towards the water opposite your home and up on to the white ground. Turn right and carry on driving next to the water. Look at the map in the bottom-left hand corner of the screen. You should be headed for the corner of the island.

5. Keep driving until just before the train track is above your head. Now begin rapidly firing the cannon. As you approach the corner of the island, your tank will begin to take off into the air. Continue firing the cannon for about three seconds, then stop firing and release the accelerator.

6. Making sure you keep control of the tank, swoop down as close to the sea as you can go without falling in. Do not press the accelerator again unless the tank is in severe danger of falling into the water. If it is in danger, use a short burst of acceleration to pull away from the water slightly, then release the accelerator again.

7. You should see a grassy hill in front of you. This is not solid; you should fly right through it. Once you have passed through it, look at the map in the bottom-left hand corner of the screen. It should indicate that there is a road in the sea, although you can only see it on the map. Remember to make sure you are close to the water, and follow the road along. (Warning: The tank can become difficult to control at this stage, keep your speeds low and it should be fine, but whatever you do, don't press the accelerator, as this will make things worse.)

8. As you fly along the road and reach the end, you should notice that in front of you, the sea ends, with nothing else in front of it. (Warning: Do not cross this point as the game will crash.) The map in the bottom-left corner of the screen should show names nearby, such as Garytown and Christytown. These are the names of some of the developers. You can search for more like this around the very edge of the map.

A word of warning, this may take a few tries to get right, but it's quite interesting when you find it.

Hey spider, he's not talking about Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale he's talking about a secret hidden city way way way out to the north east (in the ocean) of Portland. It says Ian county on the map and stuff it's really weird. Just fly north of Portland out over the ocean and slightly veer to the east and follow the invisible road on the map and you will eventually find it. Note: the area you are trying to get too is the area inside the giant rock face off the shore to the north of Portland (the rock face IS NOT solid; you go right through it.

sorry, I appogise, you were right. to the far side of the 3rd island (shoreside vale) there is a area of sea that you can't see or access in any way. Here there is a small road floating above the sea. This is the goast town you discribed. The town itself is not solid and should not be accesed be the user, It is in fact where the introduction scene of the game is done. The main attraction of the street is the bank where you do the bank job and you see some of the surrounding street. The reason why they choose to have it as an actual location instead of producing a film clip is because it takes a lot less disk space. What I found was the easyest way to go and visit it is by going over the shoreside vale (by or unlocking it) and getting killed or arrested. then head up the hill to the dam where you speed up the tank with the main cannon and flying over the hill the the goast town. The best way to see it is by playing the introduction clip a few times.

You can't unlock the ghost town. There is no way. I went through the four times withh %100 and I still couldn't unlock it. So, in other words, there is no way.

Anybody ever wonder why you can't find the place your team robbed in the intro? The ghost town is the town in the intro where your character is shot.

Explanation: 1) This is a extra spot that they used for the intro. 2) It is not an actual city/town. 3) It's can't be unlocked. 4) You really are not supposed to find it.

It is possible to get a mod (PC version only) that will allow you get to the hidden city and drive on the road there! By the way it is only a couple of roads, i believe they created it to film the intro in order to save on file space.

To starwind: Did you use cheats to complete the game "100% four times", because if you did, you probably wouldn't unlock anything major for cheating!

I have used the flying tank cheat on the PS2 version, however I did not see any 'ghost town' - then again, I wasn't looking for it. You will too crash the game if you cross the boundary. I used the flying tank to get to the dodo(note: dodo cars cheat must be off to fly the dodo). When I did this the airport was not unlocked, I was attempting to fly the dodo across the water to the island who's name escapes me and save it in that garage.
