Cutthroat Island Easter Egg - Know Thy Director

In the coach chase scene in the 17th century Jamaican port you can see a Finnish flag on one of the buildings in the background.

The flag with "the blue of our lakes and the white snow of our winters", as a poet described
these symbolic colours in 1870, was made official in a law enacted on 29th May, 1918, less
than six months after Finland had achieved independence. A new law entered into force in
1978. (http://virtual.finland.fi/finfo/english/lippueng.html)

This, of course, has nothing to do with the fact that that Renny Harlin, the director of the movie and husband of Geena Davis (unless the May '99 rumors led to a divorce) is a Finn.

Actually, Renny Harlin adds always something "Finn" in his movies. One way to get Finland known all around the world :)

It is no surprise that Renny Harlin doesn't do his research: he's one of the worst directors in the business. "Cutthroat Island" is one of the lamest movies ever committed to celluloid.
