Undertow (Tool) Easter Egg - Blue Is Your Color

Of course, we all know about the track 69 which is pretty weird in itself, but after that song is over your hear kinda soft crickets...but thats not all. Wait about 20 minutes or so(I can't remember cause its been awhile) and you start to hear a mans voice telling you a story. Its reallly weird. Have fun.

Are you talking about the evangelist preaching about how the harvest is like apocalypse for the carrots? -- Gandalf the Black

Gandalf: Nope, "Blue is your color" is yet a second (sort of) hidden track. It only half counts as a second track because it is actually part of the same track as disgustipated, the track with Maynard going off as a psychotic preacher talking about carrots. Once the speack and the song are over, you'll hear a noise that sounds like crickets for almost twenty minutes. After that is over you'll hear (very quietly) a voice reciting a strange poem about colors.

The actual time of the crickets chirping is 11 minutes and 6 seconds, or 666 seconds.

This hidden message is in fact a message Maynard(the lead singer)'s landlord left on his answering machine.

The lyrics to the story go as follows: It was daylight when you woke up in your ditch. You looked up at your sky, then that made blue be your color. You had your knife there with you too. when you stood up there was goo all over your clothes. Your hands were sticky. You wiped them on your grass, so now your color was green. Oh Lord, why did everything always have to keep changing like this. You were already getting nervous again. Your head hurt and it rang when you stood up. Your head was almost empty. It always hurt when you woke up like this. You crawled out of your ditch onto your gravel road and began to walk, waiting for the rest of your mind to come back to you. You can see the car parked far down the road and you walked towards it. "If god is our father," you thought, then Satan must be our cousin." Why didn't anyone else understand these important things? You got to your car and tried all the doors. They were locked. It was a red car and it was new. There was an expensive leather camera case laying on the seat. Out across your field, you could see two tiny people walking by your woods. You began to walk towards them. Now red was your color and, of course, those little people were yours too.

Track number 69 actually isn't a "hidden track" it's a song called "Disgustipated" on the CD it says on the back that it's supposed to be number 10, but they put a minute of blank songs inbetween them. Also, the guy speaking after the crickets is in the song, the crickets are there to probably make you mad or something along those lines. So it's not a hidden track, it's a song on the album. Go to toolband.com and I think (not sure, haven't checked) that it would say the songs on all the albums and you'll see that it's supposed to be there. Or you could also go to www.azlyrics.com/t/tool.html and go to where it says "Undertow", it has all the songs and the lyrics to them.

Actually, Kurenai is right, this was a message left by Bill the landlord on one of their answering machines. he's even credited in the liner notes.

Actually, the whole Blue Is Your Colour thing, starts at 13:51 on my cd, and I find it highly unlogical that someone would leave such a long freaky message about knives and camera cases on their answering machine, isnt there a limit how long you can record for?

Actually theyre right. If you listen very closely at the end of track 69, you can hear a phone hanging out after the crazy guy is done talking. It is a phone message...

if you read about manyard he was a different person. his landlord was also a different person and did indeed leave that message. when i am saying different watch the 3-libras video and you can tell hes not all there. but indeed he is probably the smartest person i have heard of. if you listen to the messages in his songs they are deep and dark but very meaningful.
